Upperchurch-Drombane GAA Club are sad to hear the news of the passing of the clubs former chairman, Pierce Duggan of The Castle, Two Mile Borris, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Pierce became chairman of Upperchurch-Drombane GAA Club in 1976 shortly after moving to the parish as curate. He was a key driver of the development of the playing pitch and initiated the development of our first clubhouse.
Pierce was instrumental in getting the Upperchurch-Drombane motion to hold the Centenary All-Ireland Hurling Final in Thurles in 1984 approved at the GAA’s Annual Congress held in Killarney in 1982. At this time Pierce was Chairman of Semple Stadium and through his hard work the All-Ireland Hurling Final of 1984 was successfully held in Thurles. After the All-Ireland he returned to complete a second term as Upperchurch-Drombane Chairman from 1985 to 1987.
During his eight years as chairman his energy and foresight helped lay the foundations for the club as well as putting Upperchurch-Drombane GAA Club on the national stage. Sympathy is extended to his wife Joan, sons Philip and John and the extended family from everybody associated with Upperchurch-Drombane GAA Club. May He Rest In Peace.
