PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING
Congratulations to our 1st team who overcame the challenge of Thurles Sarsfields last weekend to claim the mid title. A goal from Luke Shanahan 9 minutes in set the tone for a fast start as we took a 6 point lead. Sarsfields showed the expected fight though and by half time had reduced the gap to 3 points. Upperchurch began the second half as brightly as the first, nailing the first 5 points after the break, and for the next 20 minutes we maintained a 7-9 point advantage. Sars came back strong in the final quarter, scoring 4 in a row to give themselves some hope. This was quickly snuffed out though as 2 goals in 2 minutes from substitutes Padraig Greene & Conor Fahey restored an 11 point lead. Sars added 1 further point but we saw out the victory on a 3-18 to 0-17 scoreline. This result means we now are guaranteed at least a preliminary quarter final spot in the county championship. Attention now turns to the county championship group stages where our first match will be against south senior champions Carrick Swans on Friday 26th at 7:30pm in Littleton
