Our senior hurlers notched up their 3rd win from as many games in div 1 of the county league last Sunday when we hosted Borris-Ileigh in Drombane. Despite being down a number of players the quality of hurling was good with both teams evenly matched through the first quarter. Upperchurch then gained the upper hand and opened a 4 point lead which looked like it would give a nice cushion going into half time. Borris stuck for 2 quick goals though in the dying minutes of the half to lead by 3 points at the break. A goal from Paudie Greene almost immediately after the restart drew us level and he followed this up with another green flag 5 minutes later. Upperchurch were able to manage the game over the remainder of the 2nd half with 3 points being the slimmest the margin came down to and this was the winning margin at the end. Final score was 2-18 to 2-15. Moycarkey-Borris will be our next opponents as we travel to Littleton next Wednesday(26th) at 8pm. Best of luck to the team. We currently top the table with 2 rounds to play.
The intermediate hurlers remained undefeated in the county league as they came from behind to claim a draw against Golden Kilfeacle last Friday night. A goal for Golden midway through the 1st half saw them take a 4 point lead into half time. Upperchurch plugged away though from the restart, eventually drawing level with 5 minutes left. Final score was 1-9 to 0-12. The next fixture is against Shannon Rovers which is provisionally fixed for next Friday(28th) in Ballinderry at 7:30pm.
Best of luck to Keith Ryan and the Tipperary senior footballers against Kerry tomorrow and also to Luke Shanahan & Pat Ryan and the Tipperary u20 hurlers v Limerick tonight.
SCÓR NA NÓG MUNSTER FINALS
Well done to the Instrumental Music & Novelty Act groups who represented the parish in the Munster finals of Scór na nÓg in Ovens, Cork last Sunday. While they didn't claim the spoils they put on a great display and justified their county victories last month.
