There were great celebrations in the parish this past Saturday as the club claimed its first ever county junior A hurling crown after a tough battle against Grangemockler Ballyneale. A 4th minute goal from captain Pat Shortt was just the start we needed and we had built up a 6 point advantage after 15 minutes. However Grangemockler proved to be a team of pace and skill and a goal of their own left just the minimum in it at the break. 3 quick points upon the restart put us 4 up but it was Grangemockler who took control from there, rolling off 6 points without reply. A Loughlin Ryan point put us back in front with minutes remaining but Grangemockler looked a dangerous threat to take the tie till James Barry was fouled in the square and Pat Shortt coolly slotted away the resultant penalty. We saw out the remaining injury time to claim a 3 point victory 2-19 to 1-19. The title was no more than the team deserved after the quality of performances put in this year and on these showings will not look out of place next year at intermediate level. Congratulations to all involved on this fine achievement
UNDER 19 HURLING
Our under 19 hurlers compete in the county semi final tomorrow(Saturday Oct 29th) at 2pm in Dundrum. Cappawhite Gaels will be our opponents as we look to win a first county title at minor/under 19 level. Tickets for this game can be bought at https://embed.futureticketing.ie/c/tipperary-gaa/ and there will also be tap and go at the venue itself. Best of luck to the players and hopefully they will follow in the footsteps of the junior A hurlers & senior footballers in making the county decider this year.
Our senior footballers suffered defeat to Loughmore-Castleiney in the mid semi final last Wednesday night in Templetouhy. A first half goal from Loughmore had them in command but we narrowed the gap to 2 points at half time. There was still just 3 points between the teams entering the closing minutes but a 2nd goal for Loughmore sealed their victory, eventually winning 2-8 to 0-9. Thanks to the team and management for their efforts throughout the campaign.
The under 21 football championship will be starting soon and we will face Drom & Inch in the mid semi final on the weekend of Nov 5th. Exact fixture details and venue will be announced next week.
