PAKIE PHELAN RIP
The club is saddened to hear of the passing of former player, selector & committee member Pakie Phelan. Pakie gave many years of tireless service to the local GAA. On the playing field he was a versatile player and was part of the team that won the 1962 junior no. 2 mid title and 1966 mid junior no. 1 title while also lining out when the team played later in the senior ranks. Pakie was also heavily involved in management teams with the club at all levels from underage to adult and in particular spent many years overseeing our junior teams. His positive outlook and dedication added greatly to these teams. He was a selector when Upperchurch Drombane won the County Intermediate Hurling title in 1998 and also the County Junior A Football title in 2002. Pakie was well renowned for his athletic abilities too, competing with Upperchurch Athletic Club, and claimed the 1964 county junior cross country title and finished 3rd in the 1965 Munster novice championship. In 2011 he was honoured with a Sean Ghael award in recognition of his services to the GAA in the county. We extend our sympathies to all the Phelan family on their loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
PHIL BOURKE RIP The club also sends its condolences to the family & friends of the late Phil Bourke who passed away last weekend. Phil was renowned throughout the country for his hurley making & wood carving skills with numerous All Ireland winners taking to the field using a piece of ash he had shaped.
