PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING
Since the last weekly notes Upperchurch had a successful foray into Munster with victory over Cork side Ballinhassig in the Munster Intermediate semi final. Upperchurch went for the jugular from the off and an Aaron Ryan point in the opening seconds was supplemented by a Pat Ryan goal after 5 minutes to give Upperchurch an early 3 point lead. Upperchurch's gameplan was nicely managing the Ballinahassig attack and further points from the likes of Luke & Paul Shanahan, Gavin Ryan and another brace from Aaron Ryan meant we held a two point lead at half time. Ballinhassig came out quickly upon the restart and clawed level 10 minutes in. A Padraig Greene point steadied things before a Luke Shanahan free and a fine individual point from Dean Carew restored the advantage. Ballinhassig stayed in the game and with 10 minutes remaining there was still only 2 points in it. But good Upperchurch pressure forced mistakes and Conor Fahey supplied the finishing touch and rifled to the net. Again Ballinhassig threatened to take the game but a Paddy Phelan point and a sweet sideline score from Pat Ryan saw Upperchurch hold them off for a 2-14 to 0-17 victory. We now head to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick this Saturday to take on O'Callaghans Mills of Clare in the Munster Intermediate final. This is an historic occasion for the club and it would be great to see as many of our supporters as possible there to cheer on the team. Throw-in is at 5pm and tickets can be purchased in advance at https://munster.gaa.ie/fixtures/munster-gaa-tickets/ Please note that Munster rugby are playing in Thomond Park also on Saturday so allow plenty of extra time for travel and parking.

UNDER 21B HURLING
We had a good victory over Moyne-Templetouhy in our first game of the Mid championship last Saturday in Templetouhy. A first minute point from Sean Ryan set the tone and within the first 15 minutes we had scored a further 6 points with Dylan Cotter, Paddy Phelan, Jim O'Dwyer and Philip O'Dwyer all on the mark as a four point advantage was built up. Then came the first of 2 decisive first half goals from Thomas Ryan which put Upperchurch into a dominant lead. Moyne did put up a fight but Upperchurch kept the scores ticking from their side too and the final score of the half came from a long range free by Sean Griffin. That left Upperchurch 2-12 to 0-7 ahead at the break. Four points in as many minutes to start the half pushed the advantage to 15 points and from there we were able to manage the game to its conclusion. Final score was 2-24 to 1-15. Elsewhere in the group Drom & Inch had a big win over Loughmore-Castleiney to follow their first round draw against Moyne-Templetouhy. Upperchurch's remaining group games will be against Drom & Loughmore.

All who have registered and become patrons of this scheme have been a massive part in making this happen. We are currently putting final plans for the commemorative plaque which will display names of all the patrons to the scheme. There is still a small window to sign up if you haven't done so already and get your name on the wall by checking the link here or by contacting a committee member ASAP.
