SENIOR FOOTBALL
We were defeated by Moyle Rovers in the first round of the county championship last Sunday in Bansha. A cagey opening period had the sides tied on 4 points apiece before a goal from Michael Quinlan put Upperchurch three up. This lead was maintained until a late surge by Moyle towards the end of the first half, aided by a goal of their own, saw them lead by two at the interval. A second Moyle Rovers goal just after the restart extended their lead to six, and while a 2-pointer from Conor Fahey narrowed the margin a little, Moyle responded with another goal to take command. Upperchurch manfully tried to get back into the game and a number of scores, including further 2-pointers from Sean Ryan and Luke Shanahan, seemed to give hope. However Moyle-s experience saw them hold out and win 3-13 to 1-14. Our next game will be on Sunday Aug 31st against Killenaule.
Congratulations to our junior B side who had a convincing win over Boherlahan Dualla in the mid semi final last Saturday evening, coming out on top 1-14 to 1-6. They now qualify to face Moyne/Templetouhy in the mid final at a future date.
