Drom & Inch were our opponents last weekend in the mid semi final. As expected it was tight in the early stages with the sides trading points. Drom got a boost though when scoring 2 quick fire goals towards the end of the first half to lead by 4 points, an advantage they would maintain to the half time break. Upperchurch though were fired up for the second half and within a minute of the restart Paul Shanahan had scored a goal of his own and then 2 more points from us put us back ahead once more. Drom put up a dogged performance though and with 5 minutes of normal time left the sides were level. But it was the Black and Amber men who maintained the composure in the late stages and 2 final points saw us to a 1-12 to 2-7 victory. Well done to the lads in reaching another mid senior final. We now await the winner of the other semi final between JK Brackens & Loughmore Castleiney.
JUNIOR B FOOTBALL
It took extra time but our junior B footballers had a good win over Kilsheelan Kilcash in the county quarter final last weekend. Kilsheelan were up to the pace very quickly scoring the first 4 points of the game before Upperchurch settled into their stride with 3 of their own before a Tom Purcell goal on 12 minutes gave us a 1-3 to 0-4 lead. Further good pressure saw us add another 4 points to go 6 ahead. Kilsheelan regained control though scoring 1-2 to trail by 1 at half time. The second half started tightly but when Jim O'Dwyer found the net 10 minutes in it put Upperchurch 3 points to the good. Our south opponents fought back again though and scoring the equalizer deep into injury time saw the sides level and the game heading for extra time. Kilsheelan scored 2 early points in extra time but from there on Upperchurch took control with a goal from Andy Kinane restoring our lead and 3 more 2nd period points giving us a 5 point victory 3-14 to 1-18. Congrats to the lads on a fine win. We now face into a semi final v Clonmel Commercials this Monday evening at 7:30pm in Dr Morris Park.
